Anytime Fitness Addlestone – Commercial Gym Design and Fit-Out
TMDB delivered the complete construction and fit-out of this Anytime Fitness gym in Addlestone, Surrey, creating a modern and highly functional training environment designed around the needs of its members.
The completed fitness facility includes dedicated strength and conditioning areas, cardio equipment, free weights, functional training space and a separate studio. A strong industrial design, carefully planned lighting and clearly defined workout zones give the gym a distinctive identity while supporting the practical requirements of a busy commercial fitness facility.
This project demonstrates TMDB’s ability to deliver high-quality commercial construction and leisure fit-out projects in London, Surrey and the surrounding areas.

Creating a Modern Commercial Fitness Facility
The objective was to create an attractive, durable and easy-to-navigate gym that reflected the established Anytime Fitness brand while making effective use of the available floor space.
Unlike a standard commercial interior, a gym fit-out must accommodate numerous specialist requirements. The layout needs to support different types of exercise, provide suitable circulation around equipment and withstand continuous daily use. Lighting, flooring, ventilation, power supplies, mirrors and equipment positioning must also be carefully coordinated.
Each element of the Addlestone gym was considered as part of the complete fit-out, creating a facility that feels spacious, organised and consistent throughout.

A Carefully Planned Gym Layout
The main gym floor has been divided into clearly defined training zones, allowing members to move naturally between different activities.
Strength machines, cable equipment, free weights and benches are arranged to provide efficient use of the space without creating an overcrowded environment. Generous circulation routes make the facility easier to navigate and allow members to train comfortably, even during busier periods.
The free-weight area includes extensive dumbbell storage, adjustable benches, lifting platforms and strength-training equipment. Large wall-mounted mirrors increase the sense of space while helping members monitor their form during exercise.
Cardiovascular equipment has been positioned alongside the perimeter glazing, giving users access to natural light and external views. This placement helps create a brighter and more open training environment while keeping the central floor available for resistance equipment and circulation.

Strength and Conditioning Areas
A significant proportion of the gym has been dedicated to strength and conditioning.
The space includes a wide variety of plate-loaded machines, resistance equipment, squat racks, benches and free weights. Equipment has been positioned logically, allowing related exercises to be grouped together and creating a more intuitive experience for members.
Timber lifting platforms help distinguish the principal weight-training stations from the surrounding gym floor. These surfaces provide a stable base for strength exercises while introducing a warmer material alongside the darker industrial finishes.
The overall arrangement balances equipment capacity with accessibility, ensuring that the gym provides a comprehensive training offer without compromising movement or visibility across the floor.

Functional Training and Studio Space
In addition to the main strength and cardio areas, the gym incorporates flexible spaces for functional exercise, stretching and group training.
A separate studio is finished with a timber-effect floor that visually distinguishes it from the rubber flooring used throughout the main workout areas. The open layout provides space for fitness classes, mobility sessions and individual exercise.
Equipment storage has been incorporated around the perimeter, helping keep the central studio floor clear and adaptable. Mirrored walls make the room feel larger and provide a practical reference point during instructor-led sessions.
This flexibility allows Anytime Fitness Addlestone to support a broader range of members and activities within one commercial unit.

Durable Flooring for Different Training Zones
Flooring is a particularly important consideration within any commercial gym refurbishment or fit-out.
Heavy-duty rubber flooring has been installed throughout the main equipment and free-weight areas, providing a hard-wearing surface suited to regular use and heavy gym equipment. The material also helps reduce impact and noise within the space.
Timber-effect finishes have been used in the studio and selected transition areas, creating visual contrast and helping members identify the different training zones.
By specifying appropriate flooring for each activity, the completed gym combines durability and safety with a clear and contemporary interior design.

Industrial Interior Design and Linear Lighting
The gym has a strong industrial aesthetic, with exposed ceilings, visible building services and a predominantly dark colour palette.
Rather than concealing the ceiling structure, the design uses it as part of the character of the space. The black finish gives the interior a modern appearance while helping the equipment and illuminated features stand out.
A network of suspended linear LED lights runs across the ceiling, creating bold geometric patterns and providing consistent illumination throughout the gym floor. Additional purple accent lighting introduces the familiar Anytime Fitness brand colour and gives the interior a recognisable identity.
The combination of linear lighting, exposed services and dark finishes produces a high-energy training environment without making the space feel enclosed.

Anytime Fitness Branding
Branding has been integrated throughout the gym to create a consistent experience from one area to the next.
Large Anytime Fitness graphics and logos provide strong visual focal points, while purple lighting and selected colour accents reinforce the company’s established brand identity.
The branding works alongside the architecture and interior finishes rather than appearing as a separate decorative layer. This considered approach helps the gym feel recognisably part of the Anytime Fitness network while still having its own contemporary character.

Mirrors, Finishes and Practical Details
Large mirrors have been installed throughout the main workout areas, particularly around the free weights and strength equipment.
As well as their practical purpose, the mirrors reflect the linear ceiling lights and visually extend the gym floor. This makes the interior feel brighter, wider and more connected.
Wall finishes combine clean white surfaces with dark feature areas, timber details and graphic branding. Structural columns have been incorporated into the layout, helping divide the larger floor plate into defined areas without requiring unnecessary solid partitions.
Equipment storage, benches and accessories have also been carefully arranged to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
